Testing Improved Liver Preservation to Reduce Cancer Recurrence After Transplant HOPE4Cancer A2003267 This funding supports participation in an international phase IV trial investigating whether a specialized liver preservation method called HOPE (hypothermic oxygenated perfusion) can reduce recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver transplantation. HCC is a common reason for liver transplants, but about 15% of patients experience cancer return after surgery. HOPE improves donor liver quality compared to standard cold storage, and the study aims to determine if using HOPE leads to better cancer-free survival after transplant.Patients receiving livers donated after brain death (DBD) will be randomly assigned to either standard liver preservation or HOPE. The trial plans to recruit 220 patients internationally over 12 months, including approximately 10 patients from Leeds. The funding covers trial materials and scans, but additional support is needed for local research team costs.
