Imagine being in hospital on your birthday, anniversary or during Diwali or Christmas, knowing your loved ones or community are celebrating when you’re not able to join them.

This can often have a huge impact on patients’ mental health.

Each year, hundreds of patients spent their birthdays or special dates in hospital, but by pledging your birthday or special date and asking for donations instead of gifts, you can help patients of all ages get to celebrate theirs, even in hospital.

"We greatly appreciate the generosity of our wedding guests who embraced the cause and donated so willingly."

Last year, Mark and Jan Butters made their wedding day unforgettable by pledging it to Leeds Hospitals Charity in support of the Rob Burrow Centre for MND. Instead of traditional gifts, they asked their guests for donations, sharing their story to inspire others to do the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

Main article: Leeds Hospitals Charity: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I fundraise for a specific area of the hospital?

When you fundraise for us, you can be reassured that your money will go directly to where it’s needed most. However, you can also raise funds for a specific project or area if we have a live fundraising appeal or there’s an ongoing project in that department.

Whenever someone gives us a donation, we’ll take into account their wishes. We often have projects or appeals that we’re fundraising for, and all of these can be found on the Areas We Support page. If you know that a specific ward or department is fundraising for something, please let us know when you make your donation.

We support every area of the hospital and can provide examples of specific projects we’ve supported, for example at Leeds Children’s Hospital or Leeds Cancer Centre.
