Your monthly gift could help transform the lives of millions of local patients and families who use the hospitals every year. As well as helping to enhance the care that over 20,000 members of NHS staff already provides.

James’s Story

For nearly all of James’s short life so far, home has been a hospital ward. James relies on a ventilator and specialist care, and this means he currently can’t leave hospital. James’s mum Cayleigh worried that James wouldn’t get to experience the magic moments and milestones of a “real” childhood. But because of Play, James hasn’t missed a thing.

Regular donations help fund vital services like the Play Team at Leeds Children’s Hospital. Because of the play team, James has been able to experience so much, despite being in hospital for over a year. James has been able to play, learn and explore, with the help of his specialist play workers.

“Fi and Liv are there every morning to play, sing, and help him develop. They’re there on the hardest days too: running towards emergency alarms, distracting him during painful procedures, helping him stay calm so the trauma doesn’t sit with him for life. They know exactly what James needs as a baby, and just as importantly, what we need as parents.”
Cayleigh, James’ mum

Because of Play, James hasn’t missed out on childhood milestones

James’ world had been reduced down to four white walls of a hospital ward, but against all the odds, he has managed to thrive. Thanks to daily support from the Play Team, James hasn’t missed out on important developmental activities such as sensory play, music, stories, and adventures. James has still had opportunities, and last year, got to create magical memories when he switched on the Christmas lights. Play is not just toys and games – it’s helping children to make the most of every day.

“They’ve made this ward feel like a home away from home. They’ve given James the chance to thrive. And they’ve shown us that even in hospital, childhood can still be full of magic.” says Cayleigh, James’ mum

When you donate to us, you can be reassured that your money will go directly to where it’s needed most. However, you can also donate to a specific project or area if we have a live fundraising appeal or there’s an ongoing project in that department.

Whenever someone gives us a donation, we’ll take into account their wishes. We often have projects or appeals that we’re fundraising for, and all of these can be found on the Areas We Support page. If you know that a specific ward or department is fundraising for something, please let us know when you make your donation.

We support every area of the hospital and can provide examples of specific projects we’ve supported, for example at Leeds Children’s Hospital or Leeds Cancer Centre.
